Lead Splunk Data Engineer
As the Lead Splunk Data Engineer, you are the MVP of our data operations. You will be responsible for designing, scaling, and managing our Splunk ecosystem to ensure 100% visibility across the club’s digital and physical assets. This role sits at the heart of our Matchday Operations, Security, and Sports Science departments.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in Splunk Engineering, with at least 1–2 years in a Lead or Senior capacity
- Proven ability to monitor Splunk’s own performance using the Monitoring Console to troubleshoot "Skipped Searches," latency, or I/O bottlenecks
- Problem Solver: Ability to troubleshoot complex data pipelines in high-pressure, live-event environments
- Communication: You can explain technical data trends to non-technical stakeholders (Coaches, Scouts, and Directors)
- Passion: A genuine interest in how technology is transforming the modern game of football
Nice to have
- Sports Analytics Experience: Previous experience working with sports data providers or athlete tracking systems
- Machine Learning: Experience using the Splunk Machine Learning Toolkit (MLTK) to predict fan attendance or player fatigue levels
- Stream Processing: Knowledge of Splunk Data Stream Processor (DSP) or Cribl for managing high-volume matchday data before it hits the indexers
Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Leadership: Architect and maintain a high-performance Splunk environment (Cloud & On-prem) capable of handling massive data spikes during live matches
- Data Onboarding: Lead the integration of diverse data sources, including stadium IoT sensors, ticketing systems, and player wearable technology
- Operational Excellence: Build "Executive Glass Tables" and real-time dashboards for the Matchday Operations Center
- Team Mentorship: Act as the technical authority for Splunk, mentoring junior engineers and defining SPL (Search Processing Language) best practices
- Security & Compliance: Ensure all data handling meets GDPR and sports industry regulations
